Last year, the Gender and Development Office of the City Government of Muntinlupa, headed by Ms. Catherine Mary R. Biazon, in partnership with the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, conducted its first ever Citywide GAD Students’ Convention. It was conducted at the Expo Trade Hall of the Filinvest Mall, Alabang. This event was joined by students who came from different participating schools in Muntinlupa.
Last Friday, 24 February 2017, exactly one year after this successful event, the City GAD office, in partnership once again with the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, held its 2nd Citywide Students’ GAD Convention. The program was conducted at the Sports Complex of the City of Muntinlupa, from 1:00pm – 5:00pm. Ms. Lhinnie Lyn R. Gayeta, a staff of the Office of Student Affairs, and Prof. Dean Airo Salvador E. Dancel, a faculty member of the College of Arts and Science, were the Masters of Ceremony in the said convention.
The convention, with the theme, “Gender Issues in the Academe” aimed to familiarize the students even the faculty and staff from the different schools regarding Gender and Development, and for them to realize the big impact that GAD can contribute inside the academe, as well as its role in shaping the students. Ms. Catherine Mary R. Biazon, City GAD Chairperson & Director, delivered a Director’s address regarding connecting Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to the City GAD Advocacy.
Furthermore, Dr. Elena E. Presnedi, PLMun University President gave a response on the best practices in implementing Gender and Development Projects in HEIs. A special message was also provided to the attendees by the Guest Speaker of the event, Atty. Carmelita P. Yadao-Sison, MNSA, Ph.D., Atty. Yadao is the OIC Director IV of the Legal & Legislative Service, as well as Chair of the CHED GAD Focal Committee.
Engr. Hernando B. Napa, PLMun Administrative Officer, delivered the closing remarks for the event. Raffle prizes and snacks were also presented to the students as well as Certificates for their participation in the GAD Convention.
